Picasso was an extraordinary artistic talent, passionate, eccentric, ever changing.
Painter, sculptor, print maker, ceramicist, Picasso was among the most innovative, influential and prolific artists of all time. A body of work so extensive, bearing so many styles, I offer a glimpse of what I love.
His first drawing at 9 years old, Le picador (1890)
On a recent trip to Barcelona I visited The Museu Picasso, tucked away in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, it houses one of the most extensive collections of his artworks. Barcelona was where it all began for Picasso and where he felt he understood how far he could reach.
“Everything you can imagine is real.”
The collection takes you on an insightful journey from his traditional, evocative early works through to his more angular, modern style he’s more famously known for.
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
His lithographs and etchings comprise a significant portion of his artistic oeuvre which comprises of over 20,000 pieces and serve as Picasso’s enduring legacy. I love the simplicity of his lines, powerful, inspiring, just beautiful.
Françoise Gilot, lover, muse and mother to his children, this is my all time favourite Picasso.
Picasso and Françoise just hanging out, what a beauty!
I’ve been experimenting painting ceramics over the last year, here are some of my favorite ceramic pieces by Picasso.
Watch this very sweet clip of the man himself and be inspired!
