Love is the Drug

Roxy Music sang it, Grace Jones screamed it and I fancied drawing it one day.                            ‘Love is the Drug’ - a simple design with a whole lot of meaning.

With the official day of LOVE only a few days away, I thought I’d write a little blog about the design I created for the infamous Valentines and the inspirations behind it.

My old chum Cooper, one of the finest sign painters around and head honcho at Dapper Signs has the words tattooed on his arm, and I guess that's really where I got the idea.

It's a strong message and I wanted my illustration to reflect that. I always struggle to find a font that I like and tend to hand draw all the lettering within my designs. It takes time but I really enjoy the process and results.

First released in 1975 by Roxy Music, it was their highest charting single but missed the top spot to a re-release of David Bowie's Space Oddity. Grace Jones released her version of the classic in 1980, these are my favourite covers from the single.

Grace Jones was way ahead of her time, an absolute show stopping, trend setting, creative energy that still has strong influence today . I think this is one of the greatest music videos ever made, enjoy!

As for the Official day of LOVE........if you loves someone, just tell them.
